(Through this I wish to share my insights as an actor/trainer with my students and other acting aspirants)

“YOU WILL GET CASTED AS PER YOUR SCREEN AGE NOT BY YOUR REAL AGE”
Amir Khan in his early forties played a twenty year old engineering student in 3 idiots. Sharman Joshi and R Madhwan bit younger then him played his freinds and batchmates.

“Remember actors attain maturity and hold over their craft after a certain experience and age”.

It is very essential for an actor to realize how he/she comes across …accept that and play that age. My suggestion is never reveal your real age. If some body really insists, then respond with a smile and say “All actors lie about their age, don’t they?” And then lie!!!

In 1996 when we were filming “OM NAMAH SHIVAY.” There was this casting requirement of a 25 years old female actor to play mother of a 5 years old Shiv Bhakt Upmanyu. A 28 years old actor was finalised by the casting team.

When creative consultant/director Chandrakant Gaudji learnt about her age, he rejected her for that character . Casting guys had to look for a new actor.

Six months down they needed a young newly married 20- 22 years old couple. Same female actor was shortlisted for the wifes part, this time the casting director had told her to say that she was 20 ….that lie was accepted .. she got the part .
